The Wetshaving Lemmy Soviet has spoken: no BVWSC shave in June.

Wednesday, April 16, 2025: BVWSC
- Brush: Yaqi 24mm Synthetic Panda
- Razor: King C. Gillette DE Razor
- Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (34)
- Lather: Areffa Phantom of Kiyv
- Postshave: Williams Aqua Velva
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
BVWSC time, this time with Areffa’s Phantom of Kiyv, brought to us by @sahenders@sub.wetshaving.social. Unfortunately, April is the cruelest month (with June) for my allergies and hayfever, so I am not really able to give an informed opinion about the scent. But the base was easy to lather, and very creamy – even though it was not bear, but rather beef based (I share the very slight disappointment with @snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 🤣).
Thanks again to @sahenders@sub.wetshaving.social for another excellent discovery!

Ask not whether you will live long enough to use all that aftershave; ask how much you can use in one go without dying or suffering an insta-divorce

Forgot to post this yesterday. The soap is good, but I can’t really identify individual notes. I should put my Puma back on the stones. The aftershave (which contains horse milk) is surprisingly alcoholic, and had a good sting to it.
@djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social, the soap is on the way, with triplicate customs declaration!

I haven’t been able to find scent notes, but it smells good, is made with horse milk. And it is named after the stallion 🤔

A word on how the RazoRock “feels”. It has a sort of drag to it that the Merkur doesn’t have, but only in certain directions. I can’t tell why. It’s not a “gets sucked into your face” kind of drag like a Karve Overlander. Could it be the shiny finish? Shiny razors tend to stick to my skin, even with good lather (but the 34C is also shiny, so…). Could it be the safety bar, which has a sharp angle at the edge where it rides along your skin? It’s not uncomfortable, but it’s definitely not as rounded as most safety bars. Or could it be something else?
SS razors having more drag?

It’s a pity that Merkur doesn’t want our money, and doesn’t produce SS versions of their razors 😬

You fools! You should have kept the instance running, and sold it to Phoenix Artisan Accoutrement, or Henson Razor!

A great and very close shave, and the MdC base really makes for a slick base. I think this will become a favorite very soon.
Have a good evening!
- Comment on Anyone use a Gillette Aristocrat? How are vintage razors for frequent use? 2 weeks ago:
If I understand correctly, Gillette Aristocrat is not one razor, but a serious of different razors:
razorarchive.com/…/gillette-aristocrat-history
That being said, vintage Gillettes are good razors, and can be used for shaving every day. The 34C is a very mild razor, and whatever you may buy will likely be more efficient. I have a vintage Slim Adjustable, which is a great razor, and also a Black Beauty (which I like a bit less, but it was produced in my birthday quarter).
I can’t speak to head shaving, but if you can get a vintage Gillette for a good price, go for it!
