Saponificio Varesino Tundra Artica
They say:
The name derives from the geographical area called Arctic Tundra, where the vegetable additives used in this soap find their natural habitat:
- the Icelandic lichen (soothing, purifying, antibacterial, calming)
- the cranberry (suitable for sensitive skin, soothing and toning, gives freshness and vitality).
The scent is a very nice, a bit subdued oud, but I have not found a clear description. They say:
Fragrance: to recall the environment of the Arctic Tundra, we relied on the Agar Wood fragrance but harmonized to convey a feeling of open, fresh spaces and with a markedly woody perception of shrubs.

There was at some time a Tabac shaving stick, and maybe it still exists.

Well, I completely screwed up on this - I suggest we revert to a Tabac shave for February.
I will launch prep for March tomorrow. Burden-sharing in launching the prep in not really necessary - it’s not much work, but I need a reminder sometimes.
One thing is also that you and walden have been winning an awful lot recently, so maybe some burdensharing on that side would be fair 🤷

- Lather: Stirling Arcadia
- Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel

I rushed the shave and was tired. Very meh as a result – all due to user error.
Have a good night.

A good Zingari Zischtig, with one of the most sophisticated scents I have. Each time I have the impression that I’m not worthy of it.
Anyways, have a good night!

With boar brushes, you need probably MOAR soap

So, I cannot really count, since my sotd.el has acquired straight usage tracking very recently, but…
- it probably depends on the steel, harder steel holds an edge better ceteris paribus
- it may depend on your beard
In any case, if it feels rough, try maybe refreshing it just on your finishing stone. But @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social gives certainly better advice than I.

I’m continuing my den tour. Bon Monsieur is a very fresh and likeable scent, in a top base. This was a close and comfortable shave, ending the weekend.
Have a good evening!

- Lather: Southern Witchcraft Valley of Ashes

Good shave with Valley of Ashes. The asymetrical grind of the Man-Hoshi is something is still need to get used to (and it will probably never be a favorite), but it provided me with a close and comfortable shave.
Have a good day!

Is the cap of the aftershave blue, or is this just the light? Mine has the same color of the cap as the lid of the soap.

Duodi 2 Pluviôse an 234 de la Révolution, jour de Mousse: Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club
- Brush: Yaqi Starry Night 28mm Synthetic
- Razor: Mühle R41 (3-piece)
- Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (9)
- Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac
- Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel
- Postshave: Tabac Original After Shave Lotion
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
This was a rather rough shave. I was late, and didn’t have much time, so I used a DE. I should probably get rid of the blade. And probably, using the most aggressive razor in my arsenal was not the best idea either.
Tabac is a great soap no doubt about that. There is, however, considerable doubt whether I used the vegan or the old version. I would guess vegan.
Have a good night!

A good shave with the glorious Opuntia. The only way to improve this soap would be to increase the scent (and especially the aftershave is very weak).
Have a good day!

I don’t know whether it’s me or the brush, but I’ve been less enthused with the OC boar lately. But solid lather with a good soap. The shave was not that close – maybe I should get rid of this blade.
Have a good night!

Quartidi 24 Nivôse an 234 de la Révolution, jour de Cuivre: Also – Tabac Tuesday
- Brush: MRED/Le Père Lucien 26mm Badger
- Razor: Koraat 14.2 Straight Razor (2)
- Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac
- Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel
- Postshave: Tabac Original After Shave Lotion
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
I thought breaking in the badger is a good way to do a Tabac Tuesday (and vice-versa). I probably underloaded a bit, and face-lathered – which I normally don’t do. The result was kind of underwhelming, at least with respect to the glorious shave a had with Absinthe and the River Razors kamisori on Sunday. Lot’s of feedback with the aftershave 😱
Have a good day!

- Razor: River Razors Kamisori (2)
- Lather: Martin de Candre Absinthe
- Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel
- Postshave: Epsilon Blue Mediterranean
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
I brought back the River Razors kamisori, and I got a very close shave with it today (the extremely slick Martin de Candre base certainly helped). I will bring it back into my regular rotation (after the accident)! Absinthe is a nice and unobtrusive scent – nothing to write home about, but good and fresh. And the badger brush is also a very good experience - the only issue is that it fits only with difficulty into my mug for getting more water.
Have a good day!

Décadi 20 Nivôse an 234 de la Révolution, jour de Van
- Preshave: Proraso White Preshave
- Brush: Chisel & Hound Blaireau de la République with 24mm G5 Synthetic
- Razor: River Razors Kamisori (1)
- Lather: Le Père Lucien Ébène
- Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel
- Postshave: Le Père Lucien Ébène Après-rasage
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
After last year’s accident, I had more or less stopped using the River Razors Kamisori. I thought I should give it a try. I now remember why I liked it so much – buttery sound, nice behavior. But the wife was in an (entirely unannounced) hurry this morning, getting up earlier than she used to the rest of the week, which cut a bit the enjoyment.
This was also the first try of the Ébène line by Le Père Lucien. A very nice scent. They say:
Fragrances: Elegant, fresh, woody.
Top notes: Bergamot, Palmarosa
Heart notes: Frangipani, Saffron, Cypress
Base notes: Tonka bean, Wood and resin
The fragrance of this shaving soap is composed of a refined blend of essential oils and natural extracts, creating a unique, elegant, and luminous sillage.
It is indeed a very nice scent, even though I could not enjoy it as long as I would have wanted 😒
But looking forward to using it more.

- Postshave: Epsilon Blue Mediterranean
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
A morning shave today, living the dream. It is snowing heavily outside, and winter is back. This is my second use of Koké, and I kind of start to get it. It probably is not for everyone, but it is really a nice composition. Well done, @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social! The old-school stank of epsilon is not a bad complement to the soap, but it might be worth to look for the matching aftershaves in sales.
Second time I dropped the Bingcha brush. This thing is really slippery when wet.
Have a good day!
