- Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium w/ Superknurl handle
- Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum
- Lather: Los Jabones de Joserra - Masala Connection
- Post-Shave: Lavera Men sensitive ASB
- Passes & Info: 1 pass on the dome, 2 on the face - felt smooth, but strong burn when applying the post-shave. 1 weeper on the neck.
Rainy day, so it was time for some cold weather scents. Masala Connection smells a bit more mature than I actually am, but I really enjoy those scent notes combined.
It seems like my skin needs a break from shaving tomorrow. While I used my mildest razor and the actual shave felt good, my skin burned when I applied the ASB lotion - and it’s alcohol-free. At least I had a nice 3 day streak.

- Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
- Lather: E&S Rasage - Shaman
- Post-Shave: Lavera Men sensitive ASB
- Passes & Info: 1 pass head & face around goatee; not very close nor comfortable
Trimmed my goatee really short so I also had to shave around it; unfortunately I paid with some redness/razor burn on the face for it. I guess the blade is at the end of its life cycle.
Shaman was really cool though, yet another nice tobacco scent with some fruity and woody notes. I really enjoy the new E&S base.
Day 2 at my new station (or more accurately, as I found out by finally researching in my fav german - english dictionary: residential area) was a bit harder, but manageable. Tomorrow will be more stressful - we’re only 4 staff members in the day shift due to a injured/sick colleague. Well - this too shall pass…

Yep! It’s a “ceramic effect” spray/detailer, so it should prevent excess moisture and protect the finish/coatings of the razors. Full disclosure, I actually got this one for my new car once I am able to give it a nice wash, but figured a small test run with my razors wouldn’t hurt and might prevent new rust forming on the Stando Perun

Unfortunately not yet - I still have one oral exam at the 26th of August and will receive my certificate by the 1st of September, but since I am “three quarters done” according to management, I already transferred to that station. It might also sound much more complex than it is: the nursing home where I work is small, each floor is its own station or in german “Wohnbereich” (literal translation = living space). Back in Jan. '24 when I started, I worked from the top floor (then) to the bottom floor (now). Apologies if all of this is hard to understand, my brain is kinda mushy from all the exhaustion atm

I feel like I need to downgrade yesterday’s shave from “good” to “okay” - a few spots were simply not shaved very well. So for a minus in comfort but a plus in efficiency I chose the Hawk V2 today. A solid trade-off.
FMOM was as great as always. I’m really glad to own a few awesome tobacco soaps, one of my favourite scent notes.
Had my first shift on a new station: This one will also be my main one once the retraining is over on September 1st. The colleagues are very friendly and the residents seem to be more relaxed. Currently I feel a bit dumb since it’s a totally different work environment yet again, but let’s hope it continues to be nice.

I did use one by Sonax (german car accessories company) that’s actually for cars and car parts, but it seemed to work. Actually it was mostly for the Stando Perun: it’s a “stainless” steel razor, but nevertheless catched a good amount of rust on its top and base plate. I suspect that the artisan simply forgot to apply enough coating, since all of the Stando razors are hand-finished. I just applied some to the Greencult 2.0 and RR Cyber Medium too since they were also cleaned thoroughly by me 🤷🏻♂️

A quick shave before bed. I’ve treated 3 of my DE razors with spray coating this weekend, so one of the SEs was the best option.
And it’s honestly such a great option if I am in a hurry. Sure, it doesn’t come very close in just a single pass, but no irritation nor bleeding despite going really fast with it isn’t even possible with a cartridge for me!
Why do I constantly switch between beard styles? I honestly think there’s some underlying issues there, but currently I went back due to gray hairs on the side at just 31 (thanks genetic shit lottery) and a patch that despite multiple treatments won’t grow. I actually plan to return to just a moustache with a soul patch, but atm I am plagued by very uneven growth patterns in my facial hair. As long as I haven’t figured out how to fix this, short circle beard/goatee it is.

Thanks for letting me know. Since it’s happening on 3 different clients, I believe it’s now safe to say that it is a Lemmy issue and not related to any of the clients/apps. I wonder what the problem could be, but hopefully it’ll be fixed soon.
- Comment on Free Talk Friday - July 25th, 2025 4 days ago:
Is there anyone else who has issues loading comments and posts on Lemmy atm? I switched back from Raccoon to Voyager yesterday because I thought it was some kind of bug in the app, but Voyager has the same “failed to load comments” problem… Closing the app(s) multiple times and re-opening them helps sometimes, but it’s a bit annoying.

A nice night shave to get smooth up top.
I don’t know what base this SE soap stick is in, it feels very much premium in all qualities but can’t be used like a traditional soap stick since it’s a soft soap. I usually scrape a top layer off, evenly spread it on my head and lather up with a wet brush. The scent is a nice woody aquatic, similar to AdG by Armani.
I now have the necessary stuff to re-apply some coating on the Perun and plan to do so this weekend. It actually shaves very great so it’d be a loss not to use it anymore.

A really good fast shave. Very comfortable too. GTB is a soap I can always rely on to get things done fast.
Unfortunately the day is overshadowed by Ozzy Osbourne passing away. I always thought he’d be like Mick Jagger and seemingly live forever. RIP Ozzy, you’ll be sorely missed. Time to blast some Sabbath…

- Razor: Stando Perun
- Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum
- Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Rasoigoodfellas Gold Club
- Post-Shave: Lavera Men sensitive ASB
-> just one pass on the head and the neck. Solid shave though!
Today I was looking for a speedy shave yet again and thought that a Stirling soap should do the trick rather fast in terms of lather performance. Unfortunately, most of the Stirling I still own is autumn themed: Texas on Fire and Autumn Glory are very definitely cold weather scents. Then I remembered this funny piece of European wetshaving lore I own: so basically Rasoigoodfellas, the folks behind “The Goodfellas’ Smile” and main european importer of american artisan soaps based in Italy, made a deal with A&E when “The Club” was still around - users would subscribe to a monthly payment plan and in turn receive the ability to purchase “The Club” soaps, get exclusive discounts, early access to sales and whatnot. Since only A&E soaps was a bit meager in their opinion, they also commissioned an exclusive soap from Rod of Stirling: a dupe of Bvlgari Man in Black which arguably smells quite good. However, despite their biggest marketing efforts, the “exclusive wetshaving products club” thing tanked even harder in the EU than everyone expected, leaving them sitting on a big pile of previously “exclusive” soap. They sold everything off to the general public within some sales, that’s how I got mine. It smells really good, basically a masculine cologne soap but with a well-chosen scent (Bvlgari perfumes tend to smell great while they last, contrasted by poor projection and longevity) and the usual great Stirling soap quality. I really like this one, even though the backstory of it is a massive blunder/failure.
First day back at work after 12 free days left me exhausted. Doesn’t help that it’s rather hot outside either. Holiday season in nursing sucks, I had to work on my side with an older colleague who mostly covers late and night shifts so we were slow and everyone was nagging us about it. I’m glad to change stations at the end of the month…

- Razor: Stando Perun
- Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum
- Lather: A&E - Peach & Cognac
- Post-Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Pomona AS
-> single pass head shave at night. Fast and comfortable.
I forgot that I own this razor, only remembered when I threw away the old packaging of it (among other things) away yesterday. It had some rust, but I was able to get it off with some cleaner. Still need to treat the coating with something, but it already shaved very well. This one is the Stando model where everything is set to neutral/medium IIRC and these seem to be very good for my skin.
Peaches & Cognac follwed by Pomona was an interesting fruity, sweet and slightly spicy progression. It hurts a bit to use Pomona considering SWs recent folding, but still better than letting it rot.
For me it’s already Sunday night, I have to work in the early shift this weekend again. Well, let’s hope it won’t be too stressful… Have a nice weekend ✌🏻

To be fair, there’s a ton of different bases with different names by a variety of soap makers. It’s hard to keep track of everything that’s out there.

- Razor: RazoRock Hawk V2 w/ Cyber handle
- Blade: KAI Captain Protouch MG
- Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. - Irving Park
- Post-Shave: OAM sensitive skin toner
-> 2 passes on the head, 1 for neck line and cheek line each. Nice and smooth!
For the BVWSC shave (it’s Thursday by the time I’m posting in my time zone, but the shave happened while it was still Wednesday) we used Irving Park by the very talented Vida (owner of Chicago Grooming). Thanks to @BossHoggins10 for the generous sample!
YSL Rive Gauche and by proxy Irving Park would on paper be something I shouldn’t like, thanks to anise, lavender and geranium - scents that usually turn me off. That being said, on paper is different from the real world: it’s blended nicely with the other very pleasant notes that it smells really pleasant to my nose. I would say I can notice and appreciate the hint of bergamot, but I don’t really get anything else individually. It’s really a thorough cologne blend. A good one though. For those male wetshavers who aren’t as crazy as us hobbyists with tons of different soaps, I can see this being a solid daily driver. Perhaps better suited for the other 3 seasons except summer, but today it was a rainy day over here so it actually worked for me.
As for the performance, it was as great as expected. Never had any problems with CG lathers. I had to use a tiny brush for sample lathering which was a bit awkward for head shaving, but it became useable pretty fast. Good primary and residual slickness (important during head shaves) and a very nice post shave skin feeling.
Overall, a really good shave. Thanks to Boss for the opportunity to try this soap!

Don’t know, today felt like a day for Indigo. Slow, lazy Sunday with very indecisive weather. Currently it’s raining buckets after a very humid day.
A bit tired, helped my parents install their new larger TV and re-organize their whole living room. Both of us now have the same soundbar, a very nice upgrade in terms of audio quality.

- Razor: Ever-Ready 1912 SE
- Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
- Lather: Wickham Soap Co. 1912 - Magnum
- Post-Shave: alterra men sensitive ASB
-> single pass, mostly WTG on both head and around the circle beard. Belated celebration shave of passing my practical exam. Not super smooth, but close and comfortable!
Haven’t used a GEM in a while and I still ask myself why. Sure, the MMOC is a bit rougher than my other razors, but this one? Mild, efficient, great audio feedback. My first ever contact with a GEM single edge razor was a Star 1912 that I won in a PIF and subsequently also PIFed to someone years later. I love the ease of the clamp mechanism holding the blade down, the grip of the handle, the weight… I know a lot of people complain how difficult it is to shave under the nose with GEMs, but for beards those things rock - really sharp lines are possible with enough patience and a steady hand. Since the last few days, I gradually trimmed back my long stubble and once again I arrived at the henriquatre/circle beard/full goatee. And it seems like this is actually the best look for my patchy growth, the extended version wasn’t looking very flattering at all 😅
Magnum is a great soap. Compared to modern bases, the lather is a bit more frothy/airy, but the scent is godlike. Truly one of my top tens just for scent alone… It’s masculine but still comfortable & a people pleaser. Kinda like an old cologne, so the name is very fitting. I’m still really proud of myself for passing 2/3 of all final exams and this was a nice reward.

I passed my practical exam today!
Got a 2 (or B for our american folks) overall. I made some unfortunate mistakes, but in general it was good. Still feels really surreal though. Now only one oral exam at the end of August between me and my degree…The only negative is that I’m totally exhausted now. I’m even too tired for a celebratory shave… already fell asleep in my armchair for over an hour. My exam today was 4 hours total and my already short attention span is absolutely fried. Unfortunately I need to work two early shifts over the weekend since we’re short staffed - it’s summer holiday season after all. But after those two shifts, I finally have my well-deserved vacation time of 2 weeks. So no complaints from me.

Blu Tobacco gives a great menthol tobacco scent and a gentle cooling sensation while not sacrificing any lather quality. I really enjoy this soap and I hope it helps me to keep cool for tomorrow!
First day of the practical exam done. Writing my care plan in just two hours was a very limiting time constraint, I just hope I didn’t forget too much. Hottest day of the year so far so it was time for Rope Swing yet again! After suffering through the heat today, such a cold shave (also with cold water!) was really blissful. Just a toner today since balms tend to leave my head really sticky on hot days. Overall, a smooth and relaxing shave.
So tomorrow my practical exam finally starts, although with the written part first (documentation and care plan). Friday I’ll need to put everything into action. Am I nervous? Sure. But I don’t want to show it and I don’t want to let it stop me. I’m well prepared and while it will be hard, I really want to get this done nicely.
- Comment on Safety Razors are amazing 4 weeks ago:
Welcome! Glad to hear that safely razors are working well for you.
As for shaving soaps and making your own lather with a brush, there’s definitely a learning curve to it but you can bet that it’ll feel like a tremendous improvement over canned foam and gels! High-quality shaving soaps also don’t contain any parabens, but a lot of skin-friendly ingredients. I’m a head shaver with a scalp prone to breakouts, itching and razor burn and noticed a clear improvement from switching. YouTube tutorials are your friend, it’s how a lot of us used to learn the technique. Feel free to ask for recommendations here, our instance is small but pretty knowledgeable!
