Understandable, I wouldn’t want to waste it either!

I definitely agree. It’s sweet but not cloying, boozy but not overpowering and the added tobacco, leather and spices give it a solid backdrop with a sophisticated feeling. A really great scent for all seasons. 👍🏻

I forgot you already own a kamisori-style shavette in my recommendation yesterday. Oops.
Personally I feel like Feather AC blades are not really comparable to their DEs, at least for me. The ProGuard are the only usable ones, but they are harsh despite the guard comb. I feel way more at ease with KAI ACs, either the “Captain Pink mild” or the guarded “Protouch MG” are very nice and comfortable blades. - Comment on Monday SOTD Thread - January 20th, 2025 (#589) 6 hours ago:
20.01.2025 - Boozy SOTN
- Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid knot
- Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium
- Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
- Lather: A&E - Peach & Cognac
- Post-Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Samhain AS toner
-> 1 pass on the head plus a bit cleanup. Quick and easy.
Today I was longing for something fruity so Peach & Cognac it is. It was the first A&E soap I ever got, so it’s still in the OG Kaizen base (meanwhile, they came out with K2, K2E and Ultima bases). I must say it smells delicious - like some kind of nice liquor would. Bonus point is that it also is very easy to load and lather up.
I thought Samhain might be a good companion due to the shared boozy notes, but overall it’s too overpowering. The peach however kinda smooths it out a bit, but it’s definitely not the season for it anymore. I guess Pomona would’ve been the better combo companion, but at least I tried.

I think in such instances it’s good to check out the official site if there’s one and in this case, HAGS has one . Kinda interesting that it’s yet again just one guy, but I think that explains the AI tub art and dupe usage. He does a good amount of collabs/commission work for european wetshaving stores though and all bases are really solid. It’s just since he’s based in Greece, not many in the US know/care about him.
Out of the loop on that story about j33p though, sounds like a wild ride.

Pressing F to pay respects for your kamisori. I personally think razors should survive a fall into the sink (it’s a different thing with the tile floor), but then again what do I know about straights. Maybe a nice KAI or Feather AC shavette could be a good replacement if its really beyond saving? Mine (KAI Cap J-7) has survived some nasty falls without a single bend.

19.01.2025 - Creatures SOTN
- Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop Fan hybrid knot
- Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium
- Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
- Lather: HAGS - Creatures of the Night (Mutton tallow base)
- Post-Shave: Moon Soaps Old School “balm”
-> 2 passes on the head, one on the neck. Really smooth and slick shave! I feel like this mutton tallow base is really good.
Had a pretty busy weekend despite rarely leaving my flat (new furniture and so on), so I wanted to end it with a relaxing shave.
Creatures of the Night is yet another dupe scent by HAGS and it’s really sweet and powdery. Not my usual liking, but the base really saves it. This one gets really damn slick once it has enough water added and that rocks for head shaving. Unfortunately it’s a bit finicky to build a good lather, but I worked around that by loading for each pass individually. I was quite impressed how well the Cyber Medium handles longer growth on the head, absolutely no problem even though it’s a rather mild razor.
Hope everyone had a good weekend. Let’s see what the new week brings…

15.01.2025 - BVWSC in 2025
- Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop Fan hybrid knot
- Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium
- Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
- Lather: Los Jabones de Joserra - Noir
- Post-Shave: Moon Soaps Old School “balm”
-> 2 pass head shave, 1 pass on the neck.
First Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club shave of 2025! Today we used a great european artisan in the form of LJdJ. I was already familiar with the base, as I already own Masala Connection from my exploration of european artisans last year. I know it’s quite rich despite not getting a very thick and foamy lather.
Today’s offering is a green scent, but without the usual “freshness” or cologne levels to smooth it out. No, this one was earthy, damp and a bit smoky. I couldn’t make out any of the individual notes, but according to gcgallant’s post, that might be just right. In any case, it kinda reminded me of the current times where people put their old Christmas trees on huge piles to burn them. Maybe that’s an event only known around here, but I am pretty sure it’s inspired by swedish traditions of the Knutfest. I certainly liked the scent, especially those smoky undertones. Plus activated charcoal is wonderful for my skin, so seeing someone use that in an actual good shaving soap is great. I can definitely see that getting more LJdJ is on the menu someday. Really great soap made by someone from the EU as a passion project.
I still have to admit though, I loaded the whole sample without any second thoughts and I don’t regret it. This soap rewards heavy loading and seems to like softer water (mine’s good enough to drink right from the faucet, a true luxury compared to other places).

There’s unfortunately no clear distinction if bacteria or viruses are more contagious. There are some rather harmless viruses like rhinovirus - it causes a runny nose or in the worst case a common cold. Then there’s stuff like Influenza or the Delta variant of Covid: very contagious and very lethal for vulnerable groups. Bacteria can vary from pretty mild to very harsh ones like MRSA.
You definitely did your due diligence by waiting so long and honestly, I really feel bad for you. Sounds like it’s mostly bacterial or at least a lot of inflammation going on. I guess the doc suspects a superinfection - where bacteria lay on top of a viral infection, causing it to be a very drawn out affair (or in some cases deadly) like often seen with pneumonia. Hope you’ll get well soon! 🍀

I unfortunately have to chime in here with some nursing-related “well, ackshually 🤓”: if it’s actually a virus but it’s treated with antibiotics, this doesn’t do any good. Perhaps only to prevent secondary infections with bacteria in the best case; worst case, it makes more germs resilient against antibiotics. The name “antibiotics” is kinda misleading. Antibacterial, yes indeed. But they do jack shit about viruses or even fungus infections.
A good way to determine if it’s a viral or bacterial infection is funnily by taking a closer look at your snot: clear and transparent indicates virus, green or yellowish indicates bacteria.

14.01.2025 - Blueberries
- Brush: AP Shave Co. black & clear handle w/ 30 mm Tuxedo Fan
- Razor: Leaf Thorn
- Blade: snapped Rapira Platinum Lux
- Lather: House of Mammoth - Indigo
- Post-Shave: OAM witch hazel & cucumber toner; Alterra men natural ASB
-> 2-pass head shave. All around solid shave today, no irritation or discomfort.
I had a little craving for blueberries - recently I re-discovered a little liquid bottle that I bought during a Christmas sale with “blueberry cinnamon buns” aroma. Vaping that stuff kinda reminds me of Indigo, so I had to try that out. Oddly, there’s nothing that I associate with Christmas when it comes to blueberry and cinnamon. It’s usable all-year around for me personally.
But Indigo delivers. As always. I really think this is the more pleasant aroma with blueberries in it, but well - each are quite different mediums of delivery. Indigo is definitely darker, a bit more mysterious and smoky. Quite to my liking. Funnily enough, I have noticed now that I share the same taste for wetshaving fragrances/scents as I do with vaping e-liquids. My absolute favourite is something with tobacco in a unique blend; as well as anything dark, warm and heavy. Then come dessert gourmands: vanilla, chocolate, cookies and such. Props if it has a spicy edge. Perhaps at least equal to that, but not ahead of the dark/tobacco stuff are drink gourmands - cola, whiskey, gin and the like. Never ever too fruity and/or cloying sweet stuff. I guess my taste is an acquired one and not very easy, but at least unique.
I have somehow tweaked my back recently - it really sucks and just a few (sometimes odd) positions of sitting and lying down are without discomfort. I hope to get it back in working order soon - time to hit the foam roller again…

Meißner Tremonia - Strong’n’Scottish is the offender. They were probably going for the smoky, earthy notes of good Scotch - but to me, it only resembles the smell of smoked “Knackwurst” 😥

09.01.2025 - Vor V before Midnight
- Brush: AP Shave Co. black & clear handle w/ 30 mm Tuxedo Fan knot
- Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium
- Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
- Lather: Wholly Kaw - Vor V
- Post-Shave: HAGS - Apocalypse aftershave balm
-> 1-pass head shave. Quick, but a good one.
I actually bothered to search for at least one brush. Figured I might as well re-decorate now that I have had to tidy things up everywhere: I am looking for a nice pegboard (you know, like the kind you see in workshops for hanging up tools in an organized manner) to give my brushes and razors a nice place in my tiny bathroom.
Anyways, Vor V is a soap I won together with two NO soaps in a PIF once. It’s still going strong. It was the first WK soap I ever used and it really convinced me that I need more. Of course it helped that it’s a dupe/hommage to TF Tuscan Leather, one of my all-time favs. This here is a bit heavier on the raspberry note, but actually that’s quite welcome. What started as a day with lots of rain ended with lots of snow. It will be a wet and muddy mess tomorrow, but at least I could use some warm scents.
Apocalypse is also rather fruity and fresh, much more of a summer vibe scent. But it still fits good enough with Vor V. Plus, HAGS makes good aftershave products - IMHO, these are even better than the soaps by them. Good skincare, no shitty ingredients, absorbs fast. What else could you wish for?

08.01.2025 - Exhausted SOTN
- Brush: none/hands
- Razor: Leaf Thorn
- Blade: snapped RPL
- Lather: GRN [GRÜN] - Hemp & Hops organic shaving cream
- Post-Shave: OAM - Witch Hazel & Cucumber toner; moisturizer
-> 2 pass head shave and 1 on cheek lines and neckline. OK overall, just not as slick and luxurious as I’m used to.
Why a brushless cream? The heating company & my landlords were here today for a long-ass repair session in my flat as well as the whole apartment complex. I had to get my precious brushes out of trouble and I didn’t bother fetching the box with them from my bedroom again. I’m really spent today. The repairs took place for over 7 hours (minus 2x 1-hour breaks for them where I tried my best to fill out my school documents digitally) and then I had to clean everything up in my flat. Thankfully, everything regarding the radiators works (for now). But I simply couldn’t be arsed to search for one of my brushes.
This here is a natural & organic shaving cream by a brand from german natural manufacturer cosmondial. I don’t know if it’s intended to be a brushless cream; at least that’s how I normally use it for body shaving. The scent is quite nice, after all it combined two known vices. However, the stuff tends to get sticky and doesn’t really exceed in terms of slickness nor protection. I usually don’t notice in the shower since I still use a cartridge razor there - which I intend to change once all cartridges are used up. Their moisturizers are quite good, but this shaving cream isn’t really worth bothering in comparison to Speick (my usual choice for body shaving).
But, alas - it was still good enough to shave my head in two passes and the light texture helped with shaping accurate beard contours. Ying and Yang - there’s always something positive to a negative. Or some other deep thought shit… I’m gonna rest now. Gladly, it’ll be warm while I do so…

This is indeed a big problem. I personally recommend getting an organic supplement by a company that subscribes to the GMP standard to minimise the chances of such occurrences but - there’s always a chance of malevolent interference.

No worries, I actually find it very beneficial to critically assess anything we ingest and not just go with “trust me, bro”. So far I only have my own anecdotal evidence. Sorry for info bombing you with so much text though!

I think this credible source link summarizes it pretty well. There’s a lot of possible positive outcomes associated with it, much research was rather shallow and inconsistent and more research is needed. There’s also a PubMed summary that sounds far more positive than this, but also explains that it probably won’t help with chronic pain. So the answer is as always: it depends.
- Comment on Monday SOTD Thread - January 6th, 2025 (#575) 1 week ago:
I was honestly always skeptical about it. Last summer, when I was taking enough capsules to rival my very old residents at the nursing home, I decided to slim down my supplements to only stuff that’s good for me and is recommended by nutritionists. I cut out B-vitamin complexes as there are possibly links between B6, B12 and a quadruple increase in lung cancer risk for male smokers. I also cut out fish oil and substituted it with the way tamer hemp oil - my heart wasn’t really pleased with fish oil and the constant fish burps were awful. I also cut off L-Tyrosine, as the “effective” amount for ADHD and dopamine would be way higher in cost than I was willing to pay and the effects, if any at all, were just really minor.
Then I looked up what nutritionists and doctors say they take themselves. Apart from the always repeated Omega 3s in either animal or vegan sources, creatine and stuff like zinc, magnesium etc., turmeric/curcumin showed up quite a lot. One doc was the exception, who just said high quality local food and no supps at all, but judging by the salary he probably receives I reckon he can afford this 24/7/365. I actually began with a combination of organic curcumin, ginger powder and piperine and noticed no difference until the winter came: classmates as well as colleagues fell sick while I didn’t have any issues with being ill. And now, when some probably more contagious germ(s) got me, I just had about 3 to 4 days of actually being sick instead of the usual week to ten days.
Take my advice with a grain of salt - I am in no way a supplement or nutritional expert, but I am quite skeptical about most common used things but this convinced me. Of course, without a healthy active lifestyle and a balanced, varied diet no supp in the world can help you. They only enhance, they aren’t magic. As one old powerlifting book I used to read said very fittingly: “eating like shit but taking all the latest expensive supplements is like installing the most expensive and brightest lamps in an old, rundown cabin with leaky faucets, holes in the roof and mould on the walls. It sure looks pretty at night, but it doesn’t make any f##king sense!”. Thanks for listening to my TED talk 😅
