Bases on the Wikipedia plot synopsis. I can’t say if you’re an asshole. Bout you do seem quite wrong.
An unnamed woman, referred to as Mother, has paused her career as an artist to become a stay-at-home mom for her two-year-old son. As she navigates the isolating and monotonous aspects of motherhood, she begins to experience surreal changes, leading her to believe she is transforming into a dog.
Nah, the trappings are different, but they both have the theme of monotonous soul sucking work, where the MC is only able to confront these issues after some supernatural/mental event.
I honestly didn’t even think of the hypnotism aspect of Office Space when I made the comment. But that really does fall in line.
That’s an interesting take! But Office Space is a great movie, and Nightbitch is not. I am a man, though.

Not sure about passing judgememt on being an asshole, but the title really makes me wonder how you draw that connection at all. Men’s gender expectation is to be a drone at work and women’s expectation is to be a drone at home…so these movies are related?
Nightbitch was going to be a decent commentary on the difficulties of motherhood and it starts to mention some of the underlying issues…and then it collapses into incredibly simplistic drivel in the third act and undermines everything good it did up to that point. I haven’t read the book, but this really made it seem like the author got fed up and just wanted to wrap things up with the simplest thing that came to her mind.

This summer it up better than I did. I was mostly being sexist, though. But the way it showed her deeply I satisfied with her life as a stay at home mom, and the conclusion was to just stop doing it… It reminded me of Office Space.
To your second paragraph, I totally agreed that the third act felt rushed. But it also bothered me how 2 dimensional the husband character was. Like the only way they could convey how difficult it was to give up your career to be a stay at home mom was by making the husband the actual worst. I think this took away from the commentary.
