Never thought about the grandfather thing. I organized many father son weekends for ants and noone ever attended. Maybe grandfather son weekend is the way to go?

“Within ants, females (queens, workers) are produced from fertilised eggs (which contain two sets of chromosomes) and are diploid, while males are produced from unfertilised eggs (which contain a single set of chromosomes) and are haploid.”
So male ants are more like eggs with legs.

But, that’s sperm, right? Half the chromosomes, like an egg, only motile.

an unfertilized egg is just an egg.
like chicken eggs are unfertilized eggs because no sperm fertilized them.
If male ants are derived solely from the female gamete, the ovum, or egg, then male ants are eggs with legs, which is good, because it rhymes.
sperm is a male gamete, a different little thing than the female gamete, an egg.

Is the facepalm because now the people want to know more about the ants?

I met a guy at a bar once who was about ants at a bar one time. Wouldn’t stop talking about them. To get him to put the dimorphism into perspective I asked how Lage the women in the bar would be if the human ratio was like ants.
It was cool because I’d never gotten the opportunity to watch someone develop a fetish in real time before.

Scientist: I wonder what should I call this sex-determination system where males are haploid and females are diploids…
Boom. Haplodiploidy. I’m so good at this.
