Maybe check out ice-cream cake suppliers I reckon. Donât know for certain but I canât think of anyone else who would use a single large block of ice. Maybe the seafood trade? Cubes appear to be the retail go to.

A question for the hive mind: does anyone know what metro stores (e.g. a servo chain, supermarket etc) reliably sell bags of ice blocks? as in, one big block, not ice cubes?

yeah, everyone has cubes, which is weird, because a block lasts so much longer. How is one supposed to keep a bathtub full of ice for guestsâ drinks over two consecutive scorchers with jist cubes?
(NB: thatâs not really what Iâm doing, but I do need something that will last longer than cubes!)

Not sure about metro but ice sculptors would.

You mean like in that Mosquito Coast movie?

You could get some 1.25L/2L plastic bottles and freeze them in advance

You can get blocks directly from Bells in Tullamarine, they might deliver too. Or if you call them they might have a stockist somewhere closer. But most places have the Bells cubes.

Iâm sure there are lots of things you can do with blocks of ice but what I mostly do is ice blocking.
Take your ice block to the top of a hill, pop a bit of hessian on top for grip, sit on it, and slide to the bottom of the hill.
Take some kids to make it less weird, you can even give them a go if youâre feeling generous. Super fun on a warm day.
If you can find someone with a chest freezer then ice is easy peasy.
