This story took me for a ride. In a car. Where the driver was yelling the N-word. But itâs okay because itâs transgressive, even though I guess I donât know what that means.
Comment on Bro đđ

We had the ceremony and reception there, and there was a very pretty fountain on the ground floor where we did the pictures.
My brother also got married in a ballroom. In Alabama. In view of the âFirst White House of the Confederacy.â We are not Southerners but his wife is. It was also a Gone With the Wind themed wedding. They claim they have no racial prejudices but after that, it was pretty hard to buy. And that was before the day my brother decided to post to everyone on Facebook that he would yell the N-word when he was alone in his car because it was transgressive. (But he doesnât do it to be racist, he swears!)
Really looking forward to visiting him in Atlanta in a couple weeks. I havenât seen him in 10 years and was hoping to keep it that way, but my mom is elderly and wonât take a plane and so Iâm driving her. At least Iâm going to be staying with friends instead of him.
Sorry, I needed to rant for a second.

It means âI get to break the social contract since no one is around and I hate being constrained by rules.â Heâs neurodivergent, so heâs not the most clued-in on social contracts in the first place, but thatâs not an excuse. Heâs just a very weird person in so many ways though. He did not just decide to be a vegan, he decided to be a vegan who also will not eat fat or oil, and not because of animals, because he thinks thatâs how humans should eat if they want to live as long as possible. He also once (again, publicly on Facebook) talked about how he couldnât understand why no one in his work zoom meeting thought it was funny when he showed off the REAL HUMAN SKULL he somehow owns because apparently itâs really funny to own, again, A HUMAN SKULL.

Best of luck, friend. Thatâs a good thing youâre doing for your mom. I, too, have a troublesome brother in a southern state, and even my own family members have told me, âIf you ever visit him, for the love of god, get a hotel. Do NOT stay at his house.â Iâm glad you have friends that you can stay with instead. Hopefully youâll arrive back home with more fun memories of friends than anything else.

Thanks. And now I feel bad because I just checked Facebook and he announced that his kitty died. So I apparently killed his kitty by ranting. He couldnât take me badmouthing my brother and saw only one way out.

Oof, poor kitty. And isnât that just what this trip needed - more uncomfortable tension in the air. Is your brother the type of person to find comfort from talking about a recently-deceased pet? Or will it just make things more awkward?
My brother (and his wife) practically house a menagerie/farm. Not that they care about animals in some particular way, I honestly donât know why they do anything they do. But I know that for them, life just rolls on.

I donât think it will make things more tense or anything. I just was like, âoof, karma.â
