One of Tarantinoâs things to do alternative history storylines, and what-if type stories, where the winners are the people that didnât get to win in real life. Other examples are Inglorious Bastards and Django unchained. I donât think it was the best of his movies, but I didnât mind it. Agree it was a bit overhyped.

I finished watching Once Upon a Time In Hollywood and I understood it but Iâm still confused why it got such rave reviews. Did I miss something? I thought it had no real story line.

Oh. This makes a little more sense now. Thanks.

I think itâs a reflection of Tarantinoâs character and how he sees the world and hollywood.
Itâs a good movie but I donât agree with his world view.

I thought it was a good storyline but the ending was weird to include real life people in a fictional ending. I donât know. Iâm confused.

Alternate history - what would have happened had Tate survived

what would have happened had Tate survived
what Tarantino thinks may have happened

Itâs a counter factual history.

Iâve watched it about 10 times now. It really does get better with more viewings. If you just ignore some of the superficial stuff, itâs a great story of a failing actor dealing with loss of fame, popularity and continued success in fickle Hollywood. His waning self confidence is exacerbated by alcoholism. I think itâs some of DiCaprioâs absolute best work.
Also I think Brad Pitt won a best supporting actor Oscar for this one and for the life of me I canât figure out why. His role had no range whatsoever. (Kind of a weird because he was leading man in Ad Astra the same year with the same stilted acting style)
The final act in the film is just pure Tarantino revenge porn which he has built a reputation on. Itâs a trademark for him.

I agree, DiCaprio was very good.
And on further reflection, Iâve only seen it twice, I think the story was taken from Once Upon a Time in The West. He even used that same very famous opening shot of the town and many other angles. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdL__zuZvpA&t=228s
