I think this is a fair point. People keep talking about skirts and things but the reality is if you go to a store, 98% of the bathing suits will be like this.
That being said, in a lot of the world, men’s bathing suits are like that too. So it’s sort of an American dilemma

These are designed to be worn in the water so more fabric is just more wet material to carry around. Also, anything extra just floats and/or sticks to you. Have you worn a T-shirt in the water? When wet it’s only hiding skin, not shape.

Yes. I’m a very fat man. I wear a shirt. I have the option to flick it once or twice and suddenly the world isn’t looking at every fold of my man boobs.
If I were wearing the spandex material of a woman’s bathing suit on as my top, everyone would see my man boobs all the time, dry or wet.
