Often projects like this will have a name that suggests a relationship to a commercial product but officially does not use any trademarks.
OpenTTD runs on the original assets of Transport Tycoon Deluxe …
And they, notably, do not distribute them. Or do anything else to infringe on someone else’s intellectual property.
