When you’re in the middle of cleaning up something they just broke while also cooking dinner, answering “whats dirt made of?” can be a little frustrating.

I honestly wonder what would parenting mean to me
I didn’t have younger siblings to test it out, but I love being asked questions and explaining the world to others. Is it that people get tired of it quickly, or the questions are too silly and oddly formulated, or untimely ,or too loud, or something?

I see lol
Feels like teaching the child basic household stuff is a thing of very early priority :D

I encourage the questions (and have had some really cool ones, like why don’t we have two suns, or where did the first person come from) but yes, especially young kids ask questions because they want to hear you talk, and often they are the same one over and over, or don’t make sense, or are asked to delay something else. I mostly only answer the exciting well thought out questions and encourage them to try harder if it’s not a good question (for their age).

That’s a fair approach, I’d say! Though, if they love to hear you talk, and you can spare some time for that, it sounds like a great investment.
But yeah, being quite introverted, I can see it easily crossing the line, too, especially when I’m not up to talking.

My kids are getting older now (oldest is 9) and I allocate time at bed time for talking. They have aged out of random questions but we continue with “question time” that is the last thing before “lying down quiet time” so there’s a good incentive to think of questions to delay sleep 😁

Wow, that’s smart lol
Two birds with one stone :)

In my expirience, they tend to make a lot of questions, sometimes very silly ones and many times very quickly
Allero@lemmy.today 2 days ago
Yeah I thought of that! As someone introverted, it’s very easy to come to me at the wrong time and have me annoyed. Takes some patience to keep going :)

Yeah i am introverted too so i can get annoyed very easly, I understand

Why do you love answering questions?
Allero@lemmy.today 2 days ago
For a few reasons, actually.
Personally, I just love to give to people, and knowledge is a sort of thing you can give that doesn’t even take anything from you. The kind of look in people’s eyes when everything just clicks is precious, and kids show it more openly than others.
Professionally, I’m a beginner scientist, and, being a teacher’s kid, I was always grown in the atmosphere of deep respect for knowledge and education. And I want to carry these values forward.
Globally, I appreciate the power of knowledge and believe we’ll all be much better off if everyone’s questions could be honestly answered. And people don’t appreciate enough how many harmful and wrong ideas people carry from childhood.
So, in short, the answers don’t come from nothing, they highlight gaps of knowledge and understanding. Filling them with honest and accessible knowledge is both satisfying and awesome for the future of humanity.

What is ‘knowledge’ ?
Allero@lemmy.today 2 days ago
Globally speaking, it’s awareness of the state of the world and everything in it.
But I don’t think most people need a definition.

Too many complete sentences, clearly an LLM
Allero@lemmy.today 2 days ago
Yeah, humans lose such comprehension in this day and age.

A lot of people are afraid to ask things and I always tell them that they may be surprised to find that others respond well to someone showing interest in the things they know.
