Correct! Isn’t freedom fun? I can call you out for being bent out of shape for such an insignificant thing, or for being unnecessarily mean to a stranger, and you can laugh at me. Hell, Imma laugh with you on that one. Cheers fellow asshole!

If it is so insignificant, then learn to use the proper words. Otherwise, if the real world scares you, then stay at home with your mommy, she will protect you.

This is fucking rich. Yes it’s insignificant. You’re bending yourself out of shape because other people’s choice not to say certain words offend you. I hope someday you’ll see that. Just let people make their choice. You already called them out that you don’t like it, they don’t have to follow you, tough tits.

Don’t worry, we won’t tell your mommy.

sticking an asterisk in place of one letter doesn’t mean you aren’t still just saying it, it’s like when people upload movie scenes to youtube where someone gets shot in the head but they blur the gun like that makes it not still just a scene of someone getting shot. if it’s too difficult to say “porn” and “fucking,” there are other terms for those things. saying them and pretending an asterisk makes it different just comes across as being too immature to even being talking about it in the first place.

What actually changes for you if they said fuck? I just find it fascinating that it’s such a big deal.

Censoring things like child porn and child fucking and all that make the words more “palatable,” dishonoring the victims of these abuses. Child porn should make you feel squeamish when you type it out because you’re a normal person, don’t let it be normal and easy to read

This is a valid argument. I respect that.

Have you read 1984? The bits about Newspeak are fascinating.
NotSafeForWorld@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago
It’s an amazing book, but I don’t think that the comparison here works. There’s a difference in a powerful power structure that’s using language to manipulate a population (people have a lot to say about the newspeak and 2+2=5, but can’t see the forest for the trees) and a person on a web forums choosing not say fuck. Let the person choose how they want to communicate. The only one here forcing their rules are the ones who are saying they SHOULD say fuck rather than f*ck

I find it fascinating that people arbitrarily substitute letters for wildcards.
It’s wrong to associate innocent things like child corn and kid hucking with Elon Musk and Jeffrey Epstein.
NotSafeForWorld@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago
It is fascinating. I’m not gonna force them to change the way they speak if they choose not to tho. At the end of the day, I knew what they meant, and it matches what their intentions are, then communication has happened. It’s a casual setting after all, not gonna die on this hill.
Note that the rules change depending on context. This is just to casual a space for forcing people to say one thing or another.

Tbf, “porn” isn’t really the appropriate word to begin with. Porn implies that all parties were consenting and consentable. CSAM is a much more fitting term.
chewypoops@lemmy.world 1 day ago
No it fucking doesn’t. If you knew how much porn lacked those qualities, you would hurl.
