Cowbee@lemmy.ml 12 hours agoHitler intentionally killed about 5% of noncombatants in Nazi-controlled areas of Europe. We aren’t including soldiers at all. Under Mao, around 2.5% of China died in famines that could be partially attributed to aggressive industrialization. Arguing that Mao was worse for mismanaging industrialization than someone that industrialized mass murder to deliberately kill undesirables is horrendous historiography. It isn’t a coincidence that Mao is near universally loved in China while Hitler is near universally hated in Europe.

The highest voted comment in this thread makes claims about Mao that link back to a site run by a man who makes MAGA propaganda “documentaries”, the kinda of stuff that is fabricated nearly whole cloth, and sometimes just whole cloth. You might as well be punching yourself in mouth.
