It’s not.
Tankies like to argue that comparing Xi Xiping to Winnie the Pooh is racist because Winnie the Pooh is that off orange-yellow colour, and it’s easy to pretend racism starts and ends at vague commentary about skin colour and not, you know, power structures and oppression.
But it’s an argument of convinience, brought to you by the same people who scream “ReAd ThEoRy!!” when obscure, specific and often misunderstood academic understandings of complex political systems are more useful to their mental gymnastics.
What actually matters is that it upsets a dictator of one of the most powerful countries of the world. And fuck that guy in particular.

It's not. The commentator above is just using Israeli style conflation to attempt to dismiss any critique of the Chinese government as racist against Chinese.
Side note: For the record, I'm not racist. I hate everyone equally.

Okay, but if someone drew Netanyahu like a Jewish caricature, that’d be racist.
Cowbee@lemmy.ml 14 hours ago
That would be like saying depicting Netanyahu as a hook-nosed goblin is merely criticizing Israel. The reason it’s seen as racist to depict Xi as a yellow bear should not be difficult to put together.

Winne the pooh is racist now? Dude - the whole reason it became a meme is because someone made a cute comparison of how Xi looks like Pooh (which he objectively does) and the whiny little bitch threw a hissy fit and created his own personal Streisand effect. It has nothing to do with the Chinese people and everything to do with a thin-skinned dictator.
Remove your head from your ass before you speak. You'll sound a lot smarter.

No, Xi does not “objectively look like Winnie the Pooh.” I understand that you may not have intended on being racist from the outset, but do you really need to be explained why depicting a Chinese man as a yellow cartoon is racist?
Glide@piefed.ca 14 hours ago
Extremely different in historical context, considering one is a stereotype of a victim of genocide, and the other is the leader of a nation perpetuating it.
Cowbee@lemmy.ml 14 hours ago
The only nation perpetuating genocide here is Israel in Palestine, but even if historical context is different, what remains the same is the basis of the insult in racism!

This one?
What’s racist about making fun of a land grabbing dictator?
umbrella@lemmy.ml 8 hours ago
that’s not how you worded it but how it sounds like.

I dunno, tell me why comparing a Chinese man to a yellow cartoon bear is funny to you.
