Sooo close to figuring out the hammock
Comment on I skipped my nightly pre-tightening ritual. 🤗

For a long ass period of time Europe slept on rope mattresses
You literally needed to tighten the ropes on your bed to sleep tight so it was comfortable.

Lol I know! Plus you reclaim so much space in a small hovel if you can take down your hammock every morning…
Honestly we still do this… japanese futons are the same parallel. We have a permanent bed in western bedrooms where the Japanese temporarily set theirs out and put it away in the morning. I could fit so much more stuff if i did that…

Sleeping on a futon on a tatami floor is really comfy, too. I find it great for my back (oddly enough).

The traditional reason most people do not sleep on the floor is to be suspended above the rats & cockroaches that come out at night.

Can’t you store stuff under your bed though? We have several boxes under ours.

I mean i guess I could but I mostly store cats in zoomie mode under there so Ilve never done that.

Apparently that is not likely to be the origin of the phrase, but I am glad I learned about these early bed frames.
