I’d say the network effect is a big part. A lot of the established communities are there, so people stay there.

I do my best to stay off there, though. One thing that helped me drastically cut down on Reddit interactions is donating an Euro to PieFed for every comment I make on Reddit. (besides, either it works, or I help keep the fediverse running and improving. It’s a win-win :P)

Ok but the most effective way to cure ourselves from reddit is to get so permabanned that every whisper of our likeness gets rejected from participating over there.

  Yep that’s exactly what happened to me. I’m still really fucking bitter about it. I didn’t even do anything bad. Just absent-mindedly posting from different accounts to a sub I had been banned from. Didn’t even think about it honestly and boom Perma band

    Me too. I’ve seen many people with the same story. They set AI to do it and AI is bad at it.
