The lanes are usually segregated between trams and autos.
Also, taxis are allowed to drive directly on the tram tracks here.

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 13 hours agoWhat cars? I see lots of bikes, a couple trams, and some pedestrians. No cars. Also trains famously don’t turn themselves. The points/switches turn them.

Allowing any cars to drive on the tracks seems dangerous. There was a lady in San Diego that ended up stuck on the trolley tracks like 20 feet in the air. I have no clue how she ended up up there.
The tram tracks are notoriously dangerous for bikers. Always, always go orthogonal to them, never in parallel. Unless you like shooting off your bike when it’s momentum suddenly stops.
Isn‘t a tram that doesent share the road with cars a train? :D
TBH, I don’t know. I use team and trolley interchangeably to mean “light rail.” Heavy rail/ full sized rail is what I consider to be a train.

Ok assuming that I am not missing a joke here. Trams are expected to drive on roads, and it is not like you can see which direction their track will take at forks.

Only slightly tongue in cheek. Over here in the US we have some trams and trolleys. I don’t remember seeing turn signals on them though. Cars are expected to avoid the rather large vehicle.
