VibeSurgeon@piefed.social 2 days agoIt’s been tried before, but the fundamental limitations on networking- not to mention the compute you have to spend in data centers to run it - makes it pretty unlikely to happen, especially as a means of preventing piracy.

Aren’t we assuming the data center buildout is to monopolize compute and turn our home computing into dumb screens?
That’s what I think the hyper scalers are planning, especially after the LLM bubble pops.

nah, as a person living in central europe, which is supposed to be somewhat modern, i can tell you that to this day, i’ve never had internet speed greater than 1 MB / sec. that’s certainly not enough to live-stream games. and also my current ping is about ~100 ms i guess (am on mobile connectivity, no cable where i live).
