Yeah yeah, the singularity…
…which is why modern mass produced houses (with paper thin flammable walls) are so much sturdier than older well built houses?
It’s why modern cars with subscription models for seat warmers and extra acceleration are preferable to older cars that just had seat warmers and top acceleration already built in…
…and why a radio play written by AI is 1000 times better than a radio play written by real people, right?
Because the singularity is making everything better?
Have you considered that all that media you’ve been consuming is premised on selling you on ideas and purchases? On technologies that aren’t necessarily better, but keep their sponsors happy?
Don’t get me wrong. AI when correctly trained can be useful. But I don’t think it’s the cure all people make it out to be, and I don’t think we’re anywhere near a singularity.
Here’s a video debunking a lot of the AI stuff the media claims:

See… That’s a person who actually knows how to research. Where as just watching things isn’t really research. To properly research things you need media literacy and meta studies, and to understand the fundamentals of how things work… And to run practices and experiments on how things play out IRL.
Ultimately human labour (both mental and physical) drives the world 99.9% of the time, and AI hasn’t alleviated that problem except in the most innane areas (real estate agent copy writing and advertising copy writing).
Even programmers admit that when they use AI it’s not their best work, with many admitting it writes poor quality code.
I myself hooked some models up to Blender to allow it to create 3D scenes from prompts and found it could barely place spheres and cubes to mimic sculpting.
None of this technology is bright, or the be all and end all (extra training actually has declining returns) - so far and for the immediate future it’s EMPTY HYPE, and human art, science, and WORK HOURS are still increadibly intense, and increadibly necessary.
Don’t count your chickens before they hatch… You may well have just picked up a bunch of rocks because the media told you they’d be chickens soon enough.

I’m gonna be honest. You kinda sound like a conspiracy theorist. Can you be more specific about what you are talking about? Is this ai doomerism? Like they’re about to become sentient and take over the world? bc if that’s what you’re talking about then no, that isn’t happening. Generative ai cannot become sentient. Its really big autocorrect

i could and should write a book on the subject.
this isn’t ai doomerism in any way. imo we are living in amazing times, given one takes precautions.

This may not be what OP is into, but there’s an idea about Roswell that matches what they’re saying. Namely that America after the UFO crash was suddenly sitting on a bunch of new technology to reverse engineer.
They did so!.. And that explains America’s technical innovations since the 1950s.
So the Government set up a plan to slowly figure out and release all this tech (that’s a big change), and OP might be seeing AI as one of the final pieces.
Of course in actual fact you can traces the gradualness behind most technology, and look at the history of science to see nothing just popped into existence.
Part of the tech boom in the 1950s was from advances due to funding and science being concentrated and expanded (with the power of government funding) during the war years.
…and a bunch of the past 70 years innovations didn’t even cone from America. So really the Roswell-Tech-Boom theory falls apart. But of course like all conspiracy theories you can just recalibrate and retrofit it:

While generative AI can’t become sentient, people can very much offload throught and information handling to the glorified autocorrect.
And once it starts training solely on its own work, technological advancement may stagnate, as most people will be totally happy cooking this world to be told what they should do and think.
We’re getting to the point where the haves are placid and the have nots are powerless.
It’s not really about the algorithms; it’s about the evolutionary cul-de-sac humanity is shoving itself into.
Maybe eventually we’ll find our way out, or have another civilization collapse allowing the planet to recover and us start over again without fully eliminating ourselves.
