In the year 1000, there was (apparently) rioting in parts of Europe in the belief that the end of the world was near.

In 1284, Pope Innocent III predicted the end times would begin, as this was 666 years after the birth of Islam.

Martin Luther predicted the end of the world would arrive “no later than 1600”.

Christians have been seizing upon everything from Nero to UPC codes as “666!” as a sign of the “end times” for nearly 2000 years.
