Not always, but often, people can save more and retire <60yo if they learn about it and plan ahead. Some people’s identity is too tied to work and worry about losing that. Of course companies should pay workers more and have benefits like in better countries, including healthcare for all, so boss can’t use that leverage. Healthy lifestyle reduces common health issues too, cook at home healthy, mindfulness and be active. It all works together, simple living, improve skills for more income, side work, and DIY saves money, live healthier, keep adding FIRE skills for better health and retirement fund. Mustachians unite!

Unfortunately, the gap between what people make, what peopleneed to survive on ramen noodles and a closet for living in, and what people need to be able to save up for retirement, not just now, but when they are ready for retirement when inflation has vastly devalued their savings, is a very big gap. Only the most successful and lucky individuals get to retire at a reasonable age. The rest are work until they die poor. This was not true of the older generation, who had more buying power out of the money they made, but true for almost everyone that’s first entered the workforce after the 1990s is facing this problem.
