New unions rely on social organizing: which is rarer than even a few decades ago.
The decline of participation in city/county politics, the decline of unions, fewer people in churches, bars and parks: all of these happened at the same time. There is something lacking in most of the social structure inside the USA Today; but that sense of local community was very strong even through the 1960s.
It makes total sense that the majority of people want unions, but many struggle to improve that.
