Comment on I slander Java too lmao. I'm sure Java devs have the last laugh when their paychecks come in, tho

Java is weird and I don’t like it. It’s the go-to language to learn as a first programming language in school and university, but the kind of Java that is actually used in corporate jobs, with all the weird frameworks and libraries, is so far removed from school Java that it feels like a whole different thing. Maven is weird and confusing and I don’t get it (but I’m perfectly fine with Php’s Composer and JS npm/yarn). And I have yet to come across any sort of real life problem where OOP is a better solution than Functional Programming.

    I’m not entirely sure what you want to say, but Gradle utilizes Maven repositories.
    
    So if you need to use maven, consider not using maven.
    
    And if you’re trying to use dependencies, it doesn’t really matter where you get them from. NPM is as useless as NuGet, as Maven and every other one.

Java as first programming language? My first programming language in school was Terrapin/MS Logo (that thing with the turtle) and then Python, IIRC.

And yeah, Maven is an absolute pain. My last workplace used it and it makes me extra glad that I don’t work there anymore.

I’m more partial to OOP, though. I just find it easier to organise data and functionalities by class/object and not make a mess that way, I guess. Plus, I mainly do gamedev/adjacent stuff these days, which largely seems to be object-oriented, at least when it comes to the most popular engines.
