I mean, can you cook? It isn’t like we’re born knowing how, and the learning curve is real. You eat your own food, presumably. Is it good, or just edible?
That matters because if you seek praise, and you can’t tell if you can cook, chances are high that you can’t.
Being a good cook isn’t about recipes. It’s about practice. Doing things over and over until you don’t have to think about timing or ingredients. In terms of your specific idea, have you mastered that dish well enough that your chicken is juicy, safely cooked, and flavorful? That’s going to be the part anyone judgy is going to be right about if they find fault. If you can’t cook the chicken right, the sauce don’t mean shit.
If you can, then those flavors will absolutely slap yo mama in the face and make her ask for more.
Lasagna is easier. Well, more labor intensive, but easier to not fuck up, depending on the stuff in between the pasta. So if you’re just an okay cook, go with that. It’s just a lot more forgiving when trying to feed someone that’s looking for faults. You can still fuck it up, but as long as you don’t go that far, it’s a very filling, satisfying dish.

And doing lasagne from your own raw pasta is one of the easiest possible cases for that. No need to noodle or shape, or dry for that matter, just fresh pasta rolled thin will be amazing and give it a bit of a personal touch and “oomph”. It’s like 15 minutes extra active work beyond the waits, and most people will be impressed since not many do it. One of the easier ways to score some “wow” factor if it ends up good. Which, lasagne, is almost guaranteed to do since it’s so forgiving like you say.
