Not sure why people are downvoting you. I didn’t find your post to be snooty, or degrading. I just see someone who’s trying to help another human be a better human. I’ve always been a terrible speller. You can always tell when I type something out on my phone rather than my PC with mechanical keyboard. In this case I’ve just had the wrong spelling in my head, but if this were on PC it would have given me the red squiggle line, just as it’s doing right now with the word “downvoting”.

“Vacuum” is correct, and I’m not arguing that, but even just looking at it, my brain says “No, that’s wrong…it looks wrong…”

My brain does that all the time with words. In this case, I still think it looks wrong, but there are times I’ll spell a word correctly, think it looks wrong. Try again with a different spelling, and that looks wrong too because it is. Then try every version I can think of. Eventually I give up, and use google to spell check, and turns out it was right the first time, but still looks wrong. That’s not what happened here, but it happens daily. I’m 42, and spelling is something I’ve always struggled with.

Another way I misspell words is my cell phone will hit S instead of A, or W instead of S, or COMPLETELY ignore the fact I hit the space bar, which will join together two unrelated words.

So yeah, I do appreciate the correction, because it helps me make yet another mental note of what I’m actually wrong about. Words I initially misspelled in this post:
