saltesc@lemmy.world 3 days agoYou just rock up and say, “I need something for this” and they give it to you. Otherwise a doctor prescribes it. And it’s cheap.
Companies will advertise approved drugs to medical boards to be distributed down to doctors. So medical professionals decide what the best options are. There’s no taking drugs just because it was on TV.
Considering Americans lag behind the developed world in life expectancy and general health, I think it’s safe to say the drug industry is only there to make money and it certainly causes harm, ironically.

You have a lobbying meeting with people from various NHS trusts, and advertise directly to them one-to-one, then things go into further tests/trials and may be chosen as one of the solutions/options to a particular ailment.
You can then pay some sort of additional bribe/special offer directly to doctors to be the preferred option for that particular ailment.

TLDR: you got to prove your medication actually works (rather than just having a catchy gingle) and it need to offer ‘value for money’ (this is where politics gets involved)
