lightnsfw@reddthat.com 3 weeks agoIt literally is impossible. The only thing going to a 3d printer is a series of commands to the the various stepper motors and heating elements what to do. It would have to be capable of reversing this code to reconstruct the object being printed. A printer is not going to have enough processing power to do this if it’s even possible at all.

It doesn’t in some niche and limited capabilities. That’s like saying some hot rods don’t have to run gasoline. Sure. There are some with electric motors and they can keep up. But they have drawbacks.

It’s not a niche capability. You load the instructions onto an SD card and plug it into the printer. Every one I’ve used is capable of this and for many it’s the preferred way of operating. If you don’t know what you’re talking about just stop.
