Probably depends on the UI you’re using. I’m on Thunder mobile posting this comment and I see the image fine.

From what I can tell it started in the last year. Shit annoys me so much I’ve just stopped posting. My dumb ass shouldn’t have signed up for a lemmy instance with a “.zip” extension anyway…

It’s the same as any other image, but it’s a .avif file. Looks like they convert uploads to that, probably to save space, and the UI doesn’t currently treat them as embedable
