Dang. How has that gone, if you don’t mind me asking?

Absolutely nothing. Long Covid has me confined to my bed for the rest of my life and I’m “free” to do whatever is not too taxing.

Awfully. At first I just didn’t get well again after the initial infection. But at least I could still walk about and do little stuff, like loading the dishwasher, going on short walks, playing D&D online.
Bad mistakes. Every time I did a little too much I got even worse and could do less and less. My incompetent GP who didn’t believe in Long Covid didn’t help either.
About four years later and I can only leave the bed to go number 2. No idea how long that will last. We already bought a bed pan. But using that looks even harder rhan going myself. We’ll see.
Now that I know more I’m positive that I actually had Myalgic Encephalomyelitis even before the infection. Just not that bad. But I shan’t tell that anyone because all the science is now done on Long Covid. Even though ME has been known for about half a century and Long Covid is just an umbrella term for everything that can persist after a Covid infection.
Even after we’ve got millions of more cases ME patients are just gaslit or at best ignored.

Don’t answer if this is too much, but: how are you taken care of? I’d be scared of not making rent if I lost my job. Is there a program or something for people that are essentially bed bound? I don’t know a lot about that system.

I’m in Germany, so I have a pretty good safety net. But I was also lucky to have my wife to fill out all the paperwork and my parents to support us financially (and also with the paperwork) until it was all sorted out.
I get an early pension. The only bad part about that is that I have to reapply every three years or so. My wife gets paid to take care of me and we have an additional pool we can pay to external helpers.
On top of that I have disability insurance. I kind of was about to change it to a higher tier a year or so before Corona. But I didn’t feel like doing that paperwork. Now I wish I did.
Still, with everything together we can kind of keep living like we did before. I’m just missing around the house for chores and repairs and stuff.
