did_you_find_violets@lemmy.world 2 days agohe’s 16. high school is a big (and hardcore) deal in Korea & they want him to have his own space in order to study in peace. this living situation is also a result of their son, as they wanted a place in an area with great schools and hagwons - so expensive area. child first lifestyle basically, lmao.

Ah, yep, that checks out. Korea (and to a similar but lesser extent, Japan) is kinda wild like that. I heard about some stuff like that from my (Korean) ex’s extended family.
