I agree that with you that in theory its good to consider the broader context that leads to such behaviors. We should strive for a society that doesn’t traumatize children in all the ways the current one does. I certainly don’t think people are just created that way, but a lot of people end up with a certain cluster of behavioral patterns. What seems like unhinged behavior seems to be a lot of island of stability so-to-speak that a lot of people unfortunately land on.

But that doesn’t mean that you should either ignore or tolerate people making the world worse or getting in the way of people who want it to be better. I have a lot of empathy for Musk, for example. Yet I’d still celebrate if he took a one-way trip to Titanic.
