Seems like typically narcissist abuser behavior.
That’s a thought destroying phrase “oh, this person has bad-person-ness, so that explains the fact that they’re a bad person”.
Maybe narcissism isn’t this magic quality that turns people bad for no reason. Maybe effects have causes, and bad behaviour can be understood.
I agree that with you that in theory its good to consider the broader context that leads to such behaviors. We should strive for a society that doesn’t traumatize children in all the ways the current one does. I certainly don’t think people are just created that way, but a lot of people end up with a certain cluster of behavioral patterns. What seems like unhinged behavior seems to be a lot of island of stability so-to-speak that a lot of people unfortunately land on.
But that doesn’t mean that you should either ignore or tolerate people making the world worse or getting in the way of people who want it to be better. I have a lot of empathy for Musk, for example. Yet I’d still celebrate if he took a one-way trip to Titanic.
We used the word “retard” to mean slow for a long long time. But when it became a psychological diagnosis, the colloquial usage shot way up. Maybe some of the people calling others “r*tards” were speaking French, but I think the majority were inspired by hatred. So, the people who care about these things did two things: we changed the name of the diagnosis, and we stopped using the word. People don’t use that word nearly as much anymore.
I think a similar thing is going on with that word you used. “N*rcissist”. It had a somewhat valid use in the 1800s for a while, but it pretty quickly became about a psychiatric disorder. In the modern day, the majority using the word are inspired by hate. I don’t think most people using it are hateful, but I think they got the idea from hateful people. NPD is really stigmatised, and I think the people who care about these things should do two things: we should change the name of the diagnosis, and we should stop using the word.

It does have that vibe. They used to post stuff to get people riled up. I had a discussion about not removing one of their posts because it was homophobic. I’m glad I didn’t cave and that’s probably why I’m on the list, lol.
