Rockstar open worlds are more like chapter selection screens, where you choose between about 3 different action missions at any given time. Familiarity with the open world not only grounds it in a sense of place but also helps with navigation when you’re plotting a getaway. The checklist of chores is more of a Ubisoft thing.

Nah. Never been interested in the IP, and I’ve come to hate open-world games. They’re always the same sh*t with the same repetitive tasks. How can a game be a game when most of its gameplay is litteraly a list of chores in-between driving sequences longer than a loading screen?

Well tbf, just about anything can be a game that will appeal to someone. Somebody could make a game about exactly what you described without hyperbole (like driving around and going shopping or something), call it “daily chore simulator”, and it’d probably sell surprisingly well lol.
