Comment on .ml has got to be the only place on earth where I'd get downvoted for a comment like this
stoly@lemmy.world 5 days agoI opened my first account on .ml. I knew nothing about it and it was not until much later that I knew what ML meant. I joined only because it was the devs’ server and I figured that I could be on the cutting edge. Then began several weeks of angry attacks on random comments until I figured out what was going on and came over to .world.

Things like:
Democrats are really like the center right in Europe.
That Arabs are semites.
That I liked the ideas of communism but don’t believe that it has succeeded yet because the average person is not ready for it.
Those things caused endless rage and personal attacks.

The Arabs as semites thing is weird, while yes if you use a definition of semitism from a century ago and make technical arguments sure you can logic yourself there, but that’s not how language works. When someone says antisemitism, they’re specifically referring to bigotry against jews. It’s like all the debates about whether hotdogs are sandwiches, if sushi is a type of taco, etc. If you say “antisemitism” or sandwich or taco, nobody is going to understand you’re talking about racism against arabs or hotdogs or sushi.
As far as “I like the ideas of communism, but the average person isn’t ready for it”, maybe just accept that you haven’t ready any works by any communists, and don’t know how AES states work, like 99% of westerners instead of opining on a subject your understanding of comes entirely from adversarial sources. It’s not even wrong, it’s just indicating that you’re unfamiliar with the subject.

My ass got banned and called a propagandist for saying Hugo Chavez was a populist demagogue, and Venezuela’s government had a lot in common with Trump’s authoritarian government. They were just coming at it from the left, not the right.
No swearing, not being an ass, just saying some stuff that anyone would say after they watched one of Chavez’s rambling talk shows that went on for hours and hours.
