- Comment on Why are cassette and CD players so bulky now? 6 days ago:
Videos basically explains it. There are lots of people making devices, but with cassettes, the deck core mechanism is basically the same simple spec that Chinese manufacturers have knocked off.

- Comment on [Harvey Epstein] New York City Council Campaign - SNL (2:27) 2 weeks ago:
Many in the community recently asked us to start removing political videos, and we put it up for a vote a few weeks ago.
We’ll leave this up since it’s a fake candidate and basically just a skit about a man with a silly name. But anything regarding public policy, foreign policy, or a real politician should likely go to the new political videos sub.
Ideally we could solve this problem with tags and filtering, but lemmy just isn’t there yet, and this is what the regulars in c/videos have repeatedly asked for.

We’ve yet to define that. That said, the big reason for the move is because of community complaints around content regarding elections, political candidates, systems of government, foreign policy, etc.
- Comment on Piece work entry unpaid 5 weeks ago:
I’ll speak as someone who has been in the creative space for 20 years.
Non-“making” work is a large part of any creative job. Sometimes it can be the bulk of the time spent doing the work. A professional isn’t just making; they’re often researching, synthesizing, pitching, negotiating, documenting, formatting, etc. All of that stuff is just as important.
I would check in with a community of professional writers and bring specific examples. An example type of job, the vague topic, the word count, the time spent writing, the time spent formatting in their tool, etc.
They can help to identify the gaps and problem-solve around it. Is the client underpaying? If so, how do you avoid that in the future and/ or negotiate a higher rate now? Or, is the writer spending too much time writing? If so, what are some techniques to expedite the craft?

Looks like most of you would prefer us to separate the content. We’ll start to work to update the rules!

Yes, eventually it ends when you’re promoted to middle management and you have to forage for granola bars and cookies during the few seconds you get between meetings. Stay an IC for as long as you can.

- Comment on Oil 2 months ago:
The oil market actually has sub markets that break down by region and the type of crude that is being traded. Not all crude is created equal and there are different types of refineries that are designed to refine the different types of crude.
For example, a refinery that refines light / sweet crude won’t take the heavy stuff. Which is why places like North America export a lot of their domestic stuff. North America has a lot refineries looking for light crude, but pulls a lot of heavy stuff out of the ground.
