Remember that a huge number of Steam accounts exclusively play Free to Play games and spend no money at all. 6 of the Top 10 Most Played on Steam right now are F2P games and only one is from this year.

I played 40 different games. 21 of them were released in 2023. 83% of my total playtime was in games released this year. Most of that time was specifically in BG3.

A lot of people stick with ongoing/live service games as their main mode of play. FFXIV is the majority of my playtime, with Baldurâs Gate 3 really being the only âthis yearâ game Iâve played to a great extent.
Also plugging the Patient Gamers crowd that I find myself aligning more strongly with over time. Waiting to pick up games when they go on sale is not only easier on the wallet, but it is also a better experience overall with way too many developers these days releasing products on a âship now, fix laterâ mindset.
