Are you sure about this? I went to go read and found blogs saying that blocking stops interacting while only muting stops yourself from seeing their posts
Comment on When you block someone on Lemmy, does it stop them from seeing your posts?
homes@piefed.world 2 days ago
no, blocks don’t work here like they do on reddit. a block only mean they you won’t see them anymore. they can still see you and vote/comment on your posts/comments.

That’s a different platform. I’m referring to Lemmy. I believe piefed and mbin do the same thing.
sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
I see. I am on a few instances, I guess I need to see if any of them have symmetrical
homes@piefed.world 2 days ago
oh, it’s not an instance-based option. it’s simply not how the service handles blocking.
FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 days ago
That’s crap. Thank you.

No, doing anything else would be crap. You are free to ignore whomever you want, but demanding right to control what others see is insane.
FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 days ago
No. I should be able to stop other users interacting with content I create if they interact in bad faith.
14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 2 days ago
No, you should not. You have a control over what you want to see. You are not in control of what others want or can see and demanding otherwise is just laughable. Once you publish something on online discussion forum, people can see it. Deal with it.

Why do you want to violate other’s autonomy?
Do you try to control the actions of other people to conform to your personal will in real life to?
If you don’t like what someone is saying it doing you always have the option of ignoring it and moving on with your life.

Is it?
Everything is inherently public. Every post and comment is available to anyone with an account and everyone without one. All one would have to do is log out to see all your stuff again. You can’t really block people from seeing you, when everything is always public.
FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 days ago
It’s crap that I cannot stop them interacting rather than just seeing.
czl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 days ago
It’s actually better. If they were prevented from interacting with you, they could just make another account and continue.
This way they don’t know they are talking to the void.
Steve@communick.news 2 days ago
That’s where the philosophical argument comes in.
If you want to see something or comment on it, that’s your choice. But it’s not a choice you should be able to make for others. They have the right to express themselves, just as you do. You wouldn’t be happy if they silenced you. If they trashed you and you couldn’t respond because they “blocked” you.
Nemo@slrpnk.net 2 days ago
It’s more like “mute” than block.
FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Yeah. He wouldn’t have to see what he doesn’t like so it would work.
Unless of course his aims are to stirr drama or to dictate other users what they should watch.
sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
I agree with you and did some. looking around. Mastodon at least has hard blocks. If nowhere else does, I’ll be switching
FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 days ago
How does it work on other instances? Let’s say I have an account on Mastodon and I post something on lemmy.world? I understand there is cross posting etc but what about cross blocking?
sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
homes replied to my other comment that it’s different between instances. we’ll have to read about each ones to see what does what.
