Don’t those “buy me a coffee” things usually link to reputable payment processors?

You know those “Buy me a coffee” links on sites sometimes? I like the idea but I’m pretty hesitant to whip out my credit card for some random site, even if I do wish to support them.
With that in mind, the worst thing about ads is that they’re in your face whether you like them or not. So, what about a “Click here to see an image that will magically contribute 25 cents to the owner of this site’s hosting expense” (or something like that, maybe worded better)

Opt in ads actually sound like a decent idea. The key being opt in so that if I cant afford a service but still like them, I could choose an “free” ad tier as a way to throw them some support, with the website itself still being actually free and ad-free. I doubt that advertisers would be into that though.
