Mmm that argument would carry more weight if the video didnât start with her instagram handle. Recording videos to improve your form doesnât need to be shared with the public at large. While I think he was unnecessarily aggressive and threatening about it, I donât think itâs unreasonable to ask people to stop filming when youâre trying to work out.
How many times have you seen an influencer zoom in on a background character supposedly checking her out, or making a stupid face, or using the equipment wrong? I donât want to be in the background of anyoneâs videos, either.
Of course, donât threaten people. Thatâs not OK. Filming in the gym for public sharing should be limited to shots framed to exclusively catch you.

It is also a private space that others pay to use. Their right to privacy outweighs your right to film.

Just because a place is private doesnât mean you have a right to privacy. It means the owners of the place have the right to dictate how much privacy they give.

My gym explicitly allowes filming. Itâs something I knew and accepted when I signed up.
Either the gym shown allowes filming and didnât adequately communicate that to the guy or they donât allow it and didnât adequately communicate that to the woman.
Or one of them are ignoring the rules I guess.
Pratai@lemmy.ca â¨10⊠â¨months⊠ago
100% this.
Squizzy@lemmy.world â¨10⊠â¨months⊠ago
Absolutely, but that guy was not an owner or employee so thatâs not relevant.
Iâm not saying gyms should have to allow it, Iâm saying people who are working out should understand it.
Devi@kbin.social â¨10⊠â¨months⊠ago
I don't understand your argument. Surely paying customers have MORE right to privacy rather than less?
Squizzy@lemmy.world â¨10⊠â¨months⊠ago
His privacy was not being invaded whatsoever and he approached the situation like an asshole.
Theyâre a gym, unless the business has stated the rules that prohibit recording then I donât see why privacy is a matter to discuss as more or less at all.
Fact is if it were prohibited then he could have alerted staff, if it were not he could have asked or stated that he didnât want to be in the background of the video. Instead he put himself in the video and made a scene, was aggressive and threatening and youâre defending him.
