People giving out about recording in gyms as if context doesnât matter. Checking your form is good practice and part of going to the gym.

It is also a private space that others pay to use. Their right to privacy outweighs your right to film.

Just because a place is private doesnât mean you have a right to privacy. It means the owners of the place have the right to dictate how much privacy they give.

100% this.

Absolutely, but that guy was not an owner or employee so thatâs not relevant.
Iâm not saying gyms should have to allow it, Iâm saying people who are working out should understand it.

Mmm that argument would carry more weight if the video didnât start with her instagram handle. Recording videos to improve your form doesnât need to be shared with the public at large. While I think he was unnecessarily aggressive and threatening about it, I donât think itâs unreasonable to ask people to stop filming when youâre trying to work out.
How many times have you seen an influencer zoom in on a background character supposedly checking her out, or making a stupid face, or using the equipment wrong? I donât want to be in the background of anyoneâs videos, either.
Of course, donât threaten people. Thatâs not OK. Filming in the gym for public sharing should be limited to shots framed to exclusively catch you.

Yeah look I think that behaviour is deplorable also but in that moment you canât be assuming it is content unless itâs obvious. If the gym doesnât have rules on the matter it isnât his place to scold someone. As for it becoming content I would argue that it is due to his reaction. I cant imagine how her looks or pose would have been a great influencer style post anyway.

But who checks their form on a machine?
Squizzy@lemmy.world â¨1⊠â¨year⊠ago
I donât know, someone who might have a specific injury or requirement.
Regardless just because it doesnât seem to be a common thing to do doesnât mean the first port of call is threatening and aggressive behaviour.
