  I just find it amazing that in the US you have to file your own taxes. It seems purposefully stupid.

  Surely you could just lie, so obviously they have to calculate the taxes themselves so why do they have you do it the first time?

    There are private companies that calculate your taxes for you at a fee.

    With a portion of that fee they “lobby” government to keep it that way.

    Lobbying is like bribery but it’s done by companies and therefore legal.
