You don’t need to live in a HOA for that. I don’t think we even have those in my country, but the council would act if alerted.

Good thing you don't live under an HOA. They are authoritarian pricks who go around telling people they can't pile up trash in their yards where it is visible to others.

So, in your country, the government acts like an HOA.

More like the HOAs want to act like a government. But we already have governments. We don’t need two of them.

So the highest level of government should be policing this? You don’t think there should be any form of local government?
moakley@lemmy.world 18 hours ago
This was my first thought as well.
It’s funny how many online people turn into libertarians the moment an HOA is mentioned.

Yeah I’ll take ugly neighborhoods over predatory organizations run by nimby’s designed to keep housing prices up.

Its honestly a USA problem. We have HOAs in my country too but they don’t suck.
With all the outrage you see on american social media in regard to HOAs you’d think they would make some laws and guidelines to make it work better.
I don’t get it’s its always wild to me to see HOAs being run by the shittiest of people in your country and apparently they can do whatever they want.

I envy your naivitivity. That’s literally just how all leadership works here. I’m so fucking tired dawg.

Yeah, they would say NIYBY to your garbage pile. And that could make their homes more desirable to buy and live in ("keep housing prices up"). Definitely don't want that.
magic_smoke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 hours ago
Unironically yes, new families affording homes is more important than a return on investment for people who are lriveleved enough to own them.
Housing as an investment is fucked, and nobody but the individuals living their should own a home.
AmidFuror@fedia.io 18 hours ago
Not allowing investment properties is different than not allowing eyesores. I don't think you want to keep prices down by letting the place go to shit.
