I am feeling much better this morning after a good night’s sleep.
Today is fridge cleanout day, the new groceries are being delivered tomorrow. It’s also dog food mixing day, which works out quite well as I can put any leftover vegetables straight into that instead of freezing them. I also have plans to make bread, I’m in need of both plain and fruit loaves again.
Everything outside is quite damp, I’m hoping to see the soft green fuzz of sprouting grass soon. I’ll probably need to do some watering again towards the end of the week as they are predicting sunny days again, but once they actually sprout and can find their own water it will become a bit easier. I definitely understand why people get turf laid, it’s like the difference between and adult dog and a puppy!

Nothing too exciting. Just a few handfuls of whatever sultanas/currants/mixed fruit I have, a bit of mixed spice and a spoonful of brown sugar.
If I’m feeling fancy enough to use an actual recipe I use a hot cross bun recipe that works nicely for a loaf too:
600g flour ( 4 cups) 1 tsp dry yeast 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp salt 80g caster sugar (1/3 cup) 80g butter - rub into dry ingredients 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 cup milk 1/3 cup water 180g sultanas
Prove, divide, prove & bake
Makes 12. 200 degree oven 15 mins
loaf: 1/2 quantity, 110g fruit, small tin.

Ah thanks for that. I’ve been thinking of making something with my sourdough starter, and nobody in the house can agree on what fruit should go in it 😆
