“The Wilderness Doesn’t Give a Shit About You”
People forget that #1 fact even in states that aren’t Alaska.
I remember, years ago, this tech writer driving with his family through Oregon. They went down the wrong road in winter because the GPS told him to and it damn near killed all of them.

correction: according to that page, it wasn’t a gps issue, but a regular old paper map navigation mistake.

Don’t have time to read the article now. Is that the one where the mom had to breastfeed her preteen kids to keep them from dying, and the dad went walking for survival and died while the rest of the family got rescued?

I don’t remember all the details, but yeah, dad went off to get help and died, but the car was found saving everyone else.

Yeah, my mom showed me that one years ago. So incredibly sad. Like, one mistake and it completely changes your life, your entire family’s life

i think you might be thinking of a different, similar story, or mixing together two stories. in this one, yes the dad went off to find help and died while his family got rescued, but the kids were 4 years old, and 7 months old, at the time, neither of which would i be inclined to call preteens (though of course, they technically were), and no sources i’ve seen mention breastfeeding at all.
