Itâs looking very good!
Maybe some oil on it? I once restored an axe head in a similar way and was told that sanding it back to shiny would let it corrode again

Restoring my old childhood axe over the next few weeks. No manufacturer or any markings but it came from the grandparents place about 50 yrs ago according to olâ boy so who knows how old it is.
Being down here the salt air has not been kind. But the edge of it is remarkably in good shape given the abuse it took. Blunt as shit so time to change that.
one side untouched:
the other thatâs half done (taking forever):
Plan is to restore the edge using the Rag trick

I used a long oil soak on my Dadâs old hammers before any sanding. But hammers arenât intended for sharpening.

Trust the good olâ ball peen hammer - best modern substitute for a medieval war hammer. Though I guess you could up the nasty by squaring off the head and putting a point on it if thatâs your jam.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but, that rag trick looks excruciatingly dull.
