blarghly@lemmy.world 6 days agoIt seems like this problem would persist anywhere where med students have preferences in where they want to be hired. If med students in a communist country know that they might be sent to work in a hospital in the middle of a corn field, or in a hospital in a trendy city near a beautiful beach, they will do everything they can to be placed in the latter.

Scarcity is a fact of life. Med students in capitalism are incentivised by survival. You need this job to live. Under a socialist system, you don’t need this job to live, so the pressure to compete is less. So the volume of junk research would be less.
