There’s so much litter thrown around here. Not by residents but by rude blow-ins. Wondering if there’s any point to going out and cleaning it up.

I went out with a glove and a bag to at least pick up the alcohol cans, cigarette packets, takeaway containers and used tissues. Gross. They’re in the bin now.

I have a ridiculous amount of rubbish dumped near me. People seem to think it’s ok to dump stuff on any land that’s vacant, and because it’s a new estate there is a lot of vacant land around. People are obviously driving here just to throw things on the side of the road, including things like furniture. Plus the wind up here tends to pick up and redistribute household rubbish, some of that stuff blows over the fence and gathers in the corner of my yard.
Where I used to be didn’t have too much rubbish, but for a few years I had a vacant lot next to me that was a bit the same, random rubbish, empty bottles and occassionally dumped larger things. I used to clean up a lot of it on bin night but it was always a temporary improvement.

You’re doing a good thing to pick it up. Otherwise it might get washed into storm water, animals might eat it, birds sometimes pick up dangerous materials for their nests. I live in a pretty tame area, but it’s on a walking route to the local school, so am regularly picking up food packets or random bits of junk the kids drop. Hate it, but I figure it’s better in the bin than in my front yard.
