Spoiler free movie review : Weapons (2025)

Writer and Director of Barbarian, Zach Cregger, offers something even better this time around with Weapons. An excellent mix of horror, intrigue, mystery and even a bit of comedy.

A suburban community is traumatised by a class of grade 5 schoolchildren that disappears during the night.

To my surprise, the story premise (the disappearance) is set up immediately. It then unfolds through every character’s perspective and it moves along briskly with each “chapter”. This a great way to showcase each actor’s ability to communicate who the character is and forms a great relationship with the viewer along the way.

It is very creepy at times, there are excellent jump scares, a little bit of gore that will make you wince, and compelling right to the very end. I’m usually disappointed when horror films lift the veil of mystery in the third act, but to me this one is unconventional and ultimately very satisfying.

Some people might overthink the subtext with this one, but, there really isn’t anything deep and meaningful. It’s a fun ride that will pull you in until the end credits roll.
