You can stretch it out over about 24 months so at least it wonât be a big hit all at once

Yesterday I found out Iâd made a mistake with the ato about 3 years ago that will most likely result in a very significant debt.
It was my fuck up, and I accept that.
Iâm the one who approached them first, when I realised something was wrong which will work in my favour in a big way.
But still Iâd be lying if I said I wasnât really, really worried about the outcome.
So far theyâve been pretty good and have asked for more info. The tone of the call with the debt team was surprisingly light and the guy I spoke to said âeveryone makes mistakesâ.
But yeah, I have enough shit to deal with right now and this on top is a lot.
Thanks for listening.

the only way to handle this is confronting it head on and getting good legal advice

all G my friend. Hubs ADHD meant he didnât file his return for five years and the spankering, while impressive, was something they worked with him to develop a payment plan for.

The ATO will happily work with someone to pay a debt off! They only take legal action if the entity in debt is being obtuse and evading.
You did the right thing, it will work in your favour, and you will have the option of a payment plan!
