The real challenge though is balancing that fact without falling down the slippery slope of eugenics. Plus parents who are only mildly endangering to their kids tend to be much better for the kids than the foster system is.

  The potential for abuse in eugenics is huge, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a case to be made for some genetic filtering, e.g. getting rid of hereditary deceases.
  
  I’m also very torn on the subject of ‘the right to reproduce’ as a human right. For example: do the rights of the parents to reproduce trump the rights of children to grow up in a safe environment? Lots of people who are in terrible situations choose to have kids. People choose to procreate while living in a war zone or in refugee camps, while unable to financially support them, etc. In cases like this I think the rights of the weaker party (the children) should take precedence.
