What if you ran a computing-based Lemmy instance? That would be nice!
Others have suggested Matrix. Matrix is indeed nice. However, it doesn't feel quite like Discord, due to a lack of audio and video calling features. I think Rocket Chat might be the closest thing to what you're looking for.

Isn't that through Jitsi tho? From what I've heard it can be pretty janky, I'd never recommend using that.

Jitsi ? Its supported in element. I think video chat is new.

Yes, I tried Element as a front end to Matrix. You can do voice and video calls from there (at the top of the screen, though probably not as part of a community, but who knows, you can likely invite folks into it). You can choose a black screen like I have in there. You can also send files, but it is in a different place.
